Project Overview
Pro Kids Place is a vibrant indoor playground and children's activity centre based in the United States, offering a safe, fun environment for kids to play, learn, and celebrate. After running a slow, outdated WordPress site that struggled to connect with busy modern parents, they partnered with Blend Designs for a complete digital transformation.
The result: a fast, colourful, parent-friendly website built on Next.js 14 — one that captures the energy of the brand, builds trust with families on the go, and converts visitors into bookings.
The Challenge
Pro Kids Place's existing WordPress website had serious issues that were costing them customers every day:
- Outdated visual identity: The old site felt generic and uninspiring — not the first impression a family-focused brand needs when parents are deciding where to take their kids
- Poor mobile performance: With over 80% of parents browsing on smartphones, slow mobile load times and clunky navigation were driving visitors away before they could book
- Weak Core Web Vitals: Failing LCP and CLS scores directly suppressed rankings for local "kids activities" and "indoor playground" searches
- Friction-heavy booking flow: Parents couldn't quickly find session times, pricing, or a clear way to make a booking — the most critical conversion action on the site
- No trust architecture: Testimonials, safety information, and certifications were buried or missing — essential signals for parents evaluating a children's venue
- WordPress plugin bloat: Constant updates, plugin conflicts, and recurring security vulnerabilities required ongoing maintenance time and cost
- Weak local SEO: The site wasn't structured to rank for location-based queries from nearby families searching for kids' activities
Our Solution: WordPress → Next.js Redesign
We rebuilt the entire platform using Next.js 14's App Router, pairing it with a bold new visual identity designed to delight both children and the parents making the decisions.
Technology Stack
- Framework: Next.js 14 with App Router and React Server Components
- Language: TypeScript for type safety and a maintainable codebase
- Styling: Tailwind CSS with a custom child-friendly design system (vibrant colours, rounded UI, playful typography)
- Database: Supabase (PostgreSQL) replacing WordPress's MySQL
- CMS: Custom headless admin panel replacing wp-admin
- Hosting: Vercel Edge Network for fast global delivery
- Images: Next.js Image Optimisation with WebP/AVIF conversion
- Forms: Custom booking inquiry system with email notifications via Resend
The New Design
The redesign centred on a "Parent-First" UX strategy — every design decision was made with a busy parent in mind.
- Vibrant, trust-building visual identity: A psychology-backed colour palette that evokes happiness, energy, and safety — communicating the fun of the venue while reassuring parents about quality
- Mobile-first layout: Thumb-friendly navigation, fast-loading hero imagery, and prominent booking CTAs designed for parents browsing between school runs
- Clear information hierarchy: Sessions, pricing, party packages, and safety information are all accessible within one tap — no hunting required
- Photo-led storytelling: High-quality images of the space and happy children loaded instantly via Next.js Image optimisation, building confidence before a first visit
- Trust signals throughout: Testimonials from parents, safety certifications, and hygiene policies woven into every stage of the conversion funnel
Key Features Delivered
- Streamlined booking inquiry flow: Prominent "Book a Session" and "Book a Party" CTAs with simplified forms that capture the right details upfront — reducing back-and-forth for both parents and staff
- Party packages showcase: Dedicated pages for birthday party packages with clear pricing, inclusions, and photo galleries — one of the highest-converting page types for the business
- Activities & age groups section: Content organised by age group so parents can instantly verify the venue is right for their child's developmental stage
- Local SEO architecture: Site structure built for location-based searches ("indoor playground near me", "kids activities [city]") with LocalBusiness and ChildrensActivity structured data on every page
- Static generation with ISR: Pages statically generated and revalidated on update — CDN-speed delivery with always-fresh content
- Optimised image pipeline: All photography converted to WebP/AVIF with responsive srcsets — full-page loads under 1 second on mobile
- Sitemap & robots.txt: Dynamically generated XML sitemap for complete Google indexation
- Dark/Light mode: System-aware theme for comfortable browsing in any environment
Migration Process
The WordPress-to-Next.js migration was handled carefully to protect existing SEO equity:
- Content audit: Full inventory of all WordPress pages, images, and media assets
- Data migration: All existing content migrated to Supabase, preserving slugs and metadata
- URL preservation: All existing WordPress URLs maintained via Next.js routing — zero 404s, zero lost rankings
- Image optimisation: All media assets re-processed through the Next.js Image pipeline with WebP conversion and responsive sizing
- Redirect mapping: Comprehensive redirect rules for any URL structure changes
- Parallel staging: New site fully staged and tested before DNS cutover
- Seamless launch: Zero-downtime switch with instant rollback capability
