Project overview

Peninsula Tiles & Stone is a tile and stone showroom in Capel Sound, on the Rosebud side of the Mornington Peninsula. They sell to homeowners planning a kitchen, bathroom or outdoor area, and to builders and tilers who need adhesives, grouts and trims on short notice.

Their old website ran on WordPress, with the product range kept in WooCommerce. We moved the public site to Next.js and kept WordPress behind it as a headless back office, so the team still manages products the way they always have while customers get a faster, cleaner website to browse.

The site doesn't sell online. Customers browse the range by category, then send an enquiry or visit the showroom. Online sales are planned for a later stage.

What the shop needed

  • A catalogue people can actually browse: around 570 products across six departments, with shapes, colours and finishes that need to be easy to compare.
  • Two audiences on one site: homeowners looking for ideas and trade customers who already know what they want.
  • Local search: showing up when people on the Peninsula search for tiles, a tile shop or a stone supplier near Rosebud.
  • No change to the back office: products stay in WooCommerce, with no second system to learn.

What we built

Headless WordPress with a Next.js front end

The public site is a Next.js App Router build that reads the product catalogue from WooCommerce through the WordPress REST API. WooCommerce is used only to manage the range, not to take orders. WordPress is no longer the public website. It runs on a VPS behind Cloudflare as the place the team edits content, and the Next.js front end is served from Vercel's Sydney region, close to the shop's customers.

Department pages with shop by room

Each department is split into room categories, so someone renovating a bathroom can go straight to bathroom tiles instead of scrolling the whole range.

Product pages built for enquiries

Product pages have selectors for shape, colour and finish, plus a clear enquiry button. There is no cart or checkout. Most tile jobs start with a showroom visit or a quote, so the page is designed to start that conversation.

Inspiration gallery

A filterable gallery of kitchen, bathroom, living, outdoor and commercial projects gives homeowners ideas before they visit the showroom.

Design services and trade

A design services page lets customers book an interior design appointment. A separate trade page groups adhesives, grouts, trims and waterproofing for builders and tilers.

Contact and showroom details

The contact page carries the Capel Sound showroom address, an embedded map and trading hours, matching the business details used across the site and in the structured data.

SEO built in from the start

  • Local business schema: the showroom is marked up as a Store with its address and opening hours.
  • Product and breadcrumb schema: each of the roughly 570 product pages carries Product and BreadcrumbList structured data.
  • FAQ schema on the pages that answer common customer questions.
  • A complete XML sitemap of 588 URLs covering departments, products and content pages.
  • Crawl control: robots rules keep filter and sort URLs out of the index so search engines spend their time on real pages.
  • Unique page titles and descriptions, naming Capel Sound and the Mornington Peninsula where it helps local searches.

The result

Peninsula Tiles & Stone now has a fast, modern website that shows the whole range properly on phones and desktops, gives trade and retail customers their own paths, and keeps the product workflow the team already knows. Selling online is planned for a later stage, and because the range already sits in WooCommerce, that work will start from an existing catalogue. The site is live at peninsulatilesandstone.com.au.

Planning a similar project?

If your shop is on WordPress and the website feels slow or hard to browse, a website redesign can keep your existing product data while giving customers a far better experience. When you're ready to sell online, we also build e-commerce websites. You can see another tile retailer we worked with in our Dandenong tile shop project, or request a quote to talk through your own site.
